(3) The Lost Son (Luke 15:11-31)
Theme: God loves me even when I make mistakes.
- What did Ole do today? He tried to help Sven with a magic trick.
- Did Ole make a mistake? Yes, he let go of the tower. Was the mistake by accident or on purpose? Both. At first it was an accident but the last time was on purpose.
- What is a parable? A parable is a story that Jesus told to his friends to teach them about God.
- What parable did we hear in the Bible story today? The lost son
- Why was the younger son unhappy? He wanted to leave his father’s house
- What did he do? He asked his father for his money (inheritance) and went away. Was that a good idea? No. Was it a mistake? Yes.
- What happened to the son? He wasted all of his money and ended up a servant feeding pigs (he was so hungry he wanted to eat the slop that he was feeding to the pigs)
- What did the younger son decide to do after he lost everything his father gave him? He decided to go back to his father and ask to be one of his servants because he knew that his father’s servants were treated better than he was being treated
- Was the father angry with his youngest son? No What did his father do? He ran to meet him, hugged him, gave him new clothes and threw a party for him
- Why did the father throw a party for his son when he came back? Because the father was happy that his youngest son had come back and he wanted him to know that.
- Why did Jesus tell us this story? He wanted us to know that God loves us and if we make mistakes, when we come back he will always be happy to see us. No matter what we do, if we ask Him, He will forgive us.
Prayer: Thank God that he loves us even when we make mistakes or when we make bad choices. |

(4) The Rich Fool (Luke 12:13-21)
Theme: God wants me to share.
- Is it a good thing to share with others? Yes. What is the last thing that you shared with someone?
- What is a parable? A parable is a story Jesus told his disciples to teach them about the kingdom of God.
- What parable did we hear in the Bible story today? The parable of the Rich Fool
- In the story, who tried to take some of the rich man’s grain? some birds and a poor man
- What did the rich man do? He got mad and chased them away.
- Did the rich man have enough to share? Yes Why didn’t he share? He was selfish and wanted all of it for himself. He wanted only to be rich.
- Did the rich man have any friends? No (nobody was sad at his funeral) Why not? He was selfish and heartless and cruel
- What do you think God would have wanted the rich man to do? He wanted the rich man to share with those in need.
- Why did Jesus tell us this parable? Jesus wants us to share what we have with others. Jesus told us that if we do good on earth, we will be storing up treasures in heaven. Instead of being rich on earth, Jesus wants us to be rich with God
- Do you think God wants you to share? Yes What are some things you can share? food, money, time (you can volunteer to help others)
Prayer: Thank God for all that he has given to us. Ask God to teach us to share what we have with others.

(5) The Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14-30)
Theme: God wants me to do my best.
- What is a parable? A parable is a story that Jesus told to his friends to teach them about God.
- What business did Ole try to start today? A bank
- What was Ole’s big mistake? He buried the people’s money in his backyard.
- What should Ole have done with the money people gave to him? He should have invested it to make a profit for the people who gave it to him.
- What parable was told in the Bible Story today? The Parable of the Talents
- What did the first two servants do right? They worked hard and use the money that was given them to make more money for their master.
- What did the last servant do wrong? He was scared and lazy and did not use the money but hid the money so he wouldn’t lose it.
- Why did Jesus tell this parable? To tell us what the kingdom of heaven is like. God gives to every person gifts or talents that He wants us to use.
- What talents has God given to you? (What things are you good at?)
- What does God want you to do with your talents? He wants you to do the best with what he has given you. This will make God happy. He also wants you to use your talents to help others and to honor God.
Prayer: Thank God for making us who we are and ask Him to help us use our gifts and talents to help others and honor Him. |

(6) The House on the Rock (Matthew 7:24-27)
Theme: God wants me to obey Him.
- What is a parable? A parable is a story Jesus told his disciples to teach them about God.
- What parable was told in the Bible story today? The House on the Rock
- In the story, two men built two homes. Where were the homes built? One was built on the sand and one was built on the rock
- What happened when a storm came by the two houses? The house on the sand washed away, the house on the rock stood firm
- Which home was easier to build? the house on the sand Which home was stronger? the house on the rock
- Which home would you rather have? the house on the rock Even if you had to build it yourself? Yes, it is worth the extra trouble
- Jesus told us this story to teach us about God, not about building houses. Jesus said that the one who hears what He says and does not obey them is like the man who built his house on the sand. Is it easier to obey God’s word or to ignore God’s word? It is easier, in the short run, to ignore God’s word, it’s less work to be bad than to be good
- What would our lives be like if we never did what Jesus said? We would be selfish and mean and we wouldn’t help others, we probably wouldn’t have any good friends...
- What did Jesus say the man who built his house on the rock was like? He is like the one who hears the words that Jesus says and puts them into practice What would your life be like if you always listened to what Jesus had to say and always followed his commands? You would be kind and generous, you would help those around you, you would probably have many good friends who would help you when you needed help
- What are some things you can do to build your house on the rock (live the way Jesus wants you to)? Worship God, love your neighbor, give to the poor, be a friend to those who have no friends, obey your parents
Prayer: Thank God that He is always with us and always protects us. Ask God to help us to obey Him and live the way God wants us to. |
